LILLIE HARRIS

Retired Miami Police Captain Lillie Harris is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute Command Officer Course (FBI), and has extensive law enforcement training in key areas of specialty, including community policing, crisis management, conflict analysis/resolution, and succession management. As a certified police instructor, Capt. Harris facilitated/taught many courses, including Ethics and Professionalism, Use of Force, Diversity Training, and Sensitivity Training, as well as training other officers to become certified police instructors. She was selected by several governmental, public affairs, and civic entities to actively engage in public service positions, including the City of Miami Civil Service Board, Broward County School Board Diversity Committee, and Wilton Manors Historical Society. She has a master’s degree in Public Administration from Barry University. Along the way, she also served as a news reporter for the Miami Herald. Miami native Lillie Harris went to Shadowlawn Elementary, Edison Middle School, and Edison Senior High. She was raised during the McDuffie riot era, in the Liberty City Area, and was featured on a 1998 episode of the TV show 20/20 for her work as a sergeant in the Miami North End District, when she helped to get rid of one of the John Doe Boys, one of toughest drug gangs in the country. She retired from the force in August 2016, and is now a private consultant with her own company, The Community Policing Project, Inc. (COPP), where Harris serves as CEO and project manager. All of her projects are win/win/win by deliberately bringing together police, business, and especially community members.
